Frequently Asked Questions about Psychotherapy in New York

  • Our therapy shares common methods with general psychotherapy, but our psychotherapists in New York have advanced training in neurodiversity and disability affirming care. They also understand and can easily empathize with your specific concerns.

  • There are many reasons someone may benefit from counseling, such as (but not limited to):

-Learning new tools and strategies to cope through mental illness, addiction, life stressors, relationship issues, and/or other challenges.

    -Adapting through life's transitions

    -Processing stressful or traumatic situations

-Improving communication to promote healthier relationships

-Learning more about one's own needs, strengths, goals, obstacles, and resiliencies.

Therapy can provide support, encouragement, and insight to help you move in the right direction for a better tomorrow.

  • At this time, we are only offering online therapy. However, in the future if demand for in-person therapy increases then we will be looking into in-person therapy options.

  • At the first session, we have our intake appointment, which involves discussing your history, current symptoms, and goals with your psychotherapist in New York.

  • Usually either 40-45 minutes in length, or up to 53 minutes.

Frequency of sessions is based on medical need and availability. Sessions often starts off on a weekly basis or every other week. Therapy frequency can increase or decrease over time as your needs change. Some folks will graduate out of short-term therapy over time as they develop and implement strategies that work well for them.

Master’s Trainees (therapists who have graduated with Master’s who are still under supervision and in training may be available at reduced fees)

-Mental health insurance benefit coverage availability

    -Out-of-network benefits (if applicable)

-Total deductible per year and amount remaining

-Copay/co-insurance amounts for mental health therapy

-Whether prior authorization is required from your Primary Care Physician
